Far across the ocean lies a very special island where the animals do the most extraordinary things. Why not take a trip across the sea to visit them and join in their fun?
Aimed at preschoolers in the initial stages of mastering the basic skills and specially developed to be simple to use. Activity Island features four entertaining games which enhance children’s knowledge of basic numeracy, promotes visual discrimination skills and allows the development of creativity.
Games
● Down by the river lives the crocodile who loves to play snap - he’s very quick at spotting which pairs of animals are the same so be sure to shout ‘SNAP!’ (or tap on his mouth) as soon as you see two that match. Can you beat him to three correct answers? Increase the speed of play once you become a snap expert and challenge the crafty croc to an express version of the game.

● Deep in the rainforest sit the beautiful singing birds of paradise who can sing you five traditional nursery rhymes. You can sing and play along, deciding on the tempo as you listen-will it be fast (tap on the cheetah) or slow (tap on the tortoise)? Or if you’d prefer you can create your very own singing birds musical composition using any of the notes from the octave they can sing.
● Wander down to the seashore with the giraffe, elephant and parrot to watch the tide wash up colourful sea shells. Sort the shells by dragging them to their matching shapes on the sand. Each time you’re correct 3 new shells will be washed ashore for you to sort. (Try tapping on the elephant or giraffe for a suprise!)
● Out to sea the number dolphins enjoy jumping above the waves - can you tap each one to count how many there are? The number you count can be heard and seen. Once you master counting to 10 why not try counting 20! They can also jump in pairs so you can count along in twos.
● Down by the beautiful blue lagoon can you find the matching pairs of cards? Hidden behind each of the 8 cards is an animal, see how quickly you can find the matching pairs. Hear the noise each animal makes as the card is turned over.
How to Play
When you arrive unfurl your map by tapping on the Activity Island text to choose where you’d like to visit first. Click on the (i) in the bottom left corner to change settings, or select the game youd like to play by tapping on the creature.
Play snap by either tapping on the crocs mouth or shouting snap when the animals match. The difficulty setting can be changed in the games settings, along with the microphone sensitivity.

What We Liked: Quite a range of early learning skills are practiced in this bright and colorful app. I’m listing it under toddlers and preschoolers, but more specifically, I think this app is great for 2-4 year olds. Children just learning to match, and compare will have lots of fun with the simple seashell puzzle – it’s only 3 pieces, so it’s easy to complete and gives an immediate sense of accomplishment. Crocodile Snap is our favorite activity in this app. It also calls the skills of careful observation, comparing, and matching into use as children watch for matched pairs of animals to ‘snap’. My five-year-old LOVES Crocodile Snap, especially when I have the mic option turned on and she can shout ‘SNAP!” It’s SO exciting! My three-year-old likes the easy seashell puzzle the best. There aren’t a lot of apps that include skip counting in them, and particularly not at this age level, so I think it’s great that you can count the dolphins singly or in pairs and adjust the number they count up to. None of the activities take a long time to complete, so they are great for short attention spans. There is also enough to do within the app that it keeps my little flutterbug bouncing around between activities within the app, and she even gets a few finished before she’s off to another one. As a homeschooling mom, I really appreciate the thoughtful design that went into this app. The flexible options that can be changed for each activity to match children’s skills and learning levels are very useful. What We Didn’t Like: Just a couple of minor things; it would be nice if there was a simple rules section for the Crocodile Snap game (I wasn’t really sure how to play myself and had to figure it out so I could show my daughters), and I’d prefer it if the app went straight to the map when an activity was excited from, instead of back to the home screen every time. Overall: With its high interest learning activities and thoughtful options and difficulty levels, Toddler Activity Island is a great value for preschoolers. Your little ones will have a lot of fun practicing and developing their early thinking skills with engaging games, enjoy some musical exploration, and enjoy a simple introduction to counting. Cute, but freezes a lot. Super simplistic; best for under 2s.
